Angela is a Registered Nurse and Certified Diabetes Educator. She recently received recognition as the longest serving employee of Michael Garron Hospital (formerly Toronto East General Hospital), dedicating 45+ years of health-care service to the east Toronto community. Currently she is a member of the ambulatory care department at Michael Garron Hospital.
Angela played a lead role through 2000-2002 in developing an innovative partnership among two community health centres and a community hospital to provide diabetes education programs for people with type 2 diabetes. This program, known as DECNET – Diabetes Education Centre Community Network of East Toronto– received full funding from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and is now the model that is funded throughout the province to provide community based diabetes education.
Angela was first elected as Trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board in November 2000. She has had the privilege of representing TCDSB Ward 11 (which includes Don Valley East) for five terms. Angela was elected Chair of the Toronto Catholic District School Board in December 2015.
Angela is married to Alistair Kennedy, a Chartered Accountant and volunteer hockey coach with the North York Knights Organization. They have lived in North York for over thirty years. They have seven sons and six grandchildren. Angela has graduated from being a “Hockey Mom” to a “Hockey Grandma” now that her grandchildren are “hitting the ice”!
